My story starts with Holstee’s very own Helen. She had posted a picture of the Manifesto months ago on Facebook, and I was struck by the line, “If you don’t like your job, quit.” My job had been one frustration after another, but I had stuck with it because I didn’t want to be accused of not trying, or of “giving up” too quickly. I resigned in May 2012, deciding that a huge salary and 100% medical benefit coverage wasn’t worth the stress and unhappiness I brought home every day.It truly has been one of the best decisions that I have made. While I don’t really have a specific career direction at the moment, I’ve never been happier! After quitting, the pieces of life began to fall into place, and now my husband and I are looking to move from the city to a farmhouse with 40 acres. We’re renovating the house and barn on our weekends, and we are so excited about our new life! He has kept his job, but I just went from an executive assistant in a business suit and heels to a recreational farmer in overalls and boots. Many thanks to Helen and Holstee for the encouragement to do something drastic that my normal, practical self would have never done. My life and marriage are better for quitting, and a new adventure has begun!
